Where Do You Find Properties?

There are a few websites that can help you out once it’s time to start shopping for a property. One of the first websites I used to find a new home for STOKES|HERZOG was Loopnet. This is a commercial real estate website that lists thousands of properties for sale all across the U.S. From strip malls to apartment complexes and vacant land, you can find it on Loopnet. Sometimes with a price, sometimes without.

But it will help you get an idea of what’s out there for current asking prices.

Also, we used a number of different local REALTOR® websites, because they have some properties listed that aren’t on Loopnet.  The MLS or Multiple Listing Service is a website that connects you to hundreds of REALTOR® sites. All realtors are members and they have all the information you’ll need. Just punch in what you’re looking for on any of the sites, and they’ll show you properties all over the region. Something that a lot of people won’t tell you is that many of the buildings, the good quality properties in good locations or with good cashflow, never actually hit the open market. Local bankers, like our friends Tracy Smiskey and Jody Becker at Northwestern Bank, are also great people to ask about possible properties that could be for sale, because they know just about everyone in the business community. Allow plenty of time for your search, there aren’t a lot of commercial properties out there for sale, so it might take some time to find the perfect new home for your business.
